Below we present a training method that can be used to strengthen football-specific physical conditioning during training sessions.
🧩 Required equipment:
-
cones;
-
flat markers;
-
footballs.

👥 Organization:
The squad will be divided into two teams of 8 players each.
In the central area, a playing zone will be created where an 8 vs 2 possession game will take place.
At a distance of 25 meters from this central area, both on the left and right sides, two additional playing areas will be created where 4 vs 1 possession games will be played.
Perpendicular to the middle of the 8 vs 2 playing area, at a distance of 50 meters, two cones will be placed with a distance of 4–5 meters between them.
✅ Exercise description:
The drill begins with an 8 vs 2 possession game in the central area
(8 blue players vs 2 red players).
When the two red players win possession of the ball, they immediately start a forward sprint toward the two cones placed about 40 meters away.
Once they reach the cones, the players split their running directions:
-
One player runs around the right cone and continues toward the 4 vs 1 area on the right side.
-
The other player runs around the left cone and continues toward the 4 vs 1 area on the left side.
In each 4 vs 1 playing area, there will already be 4 blue players positioned:
-
4 players will run toward the right-side square,
-
4 players will run toward the left-side square.
Inside the smaller areas, the players will play 4 vs 1 possession games until the team of four loses possession.
At that moment, the four players sprint back to the large central playing area, where a new 8 vs 2 game begins with two different red players in the middle.
The two red players who completed the previous action return to the back of the red line walking.
🏃 Running intensity
All runs between the playing areas should be performed at approximately ¾ intensity.
🔁 Repetitions
The number of repetitions will be determined by the coach according to:
-
the age group of the players,
-
their physical condition,
-
and the training objectives.
The teams will switch roles periodically after a certain number of repetitions.
