There were arguments about fouls, handballs, corners and whether the ball had crossed the imaginary goal line. Sometimes the discussion lasted longer than the action itself. But eventually, we found a solution—because everyone wanted the game to continue.
Without adults making every decision, children learned to explain their point of view, listen to others, negotiate and accept compromises. They discovered that being right was not always more important than protecting the game.
Street football developed more than technical ability. It created responsibility. Players had to respect unwritten rules, control their emotions and understand that unfair behaviour could destroy the trust of the entire group.
These moments taught lessons that no drill could completely reproduce: fairness, communication, leadership and conflict resolution.
Perhaps the greatest lesson was simple: if we wanted to keep playing together, we also had to learn how to solve problems together.
