Game of the week (2) - Year 2025

“Castle Down!”

Throwing and aiming games are always among students’ favorites, as they combine movement, attention, and a healthy dose of competition. They encourage quick reactions, precision, and teamwork — all while keeping the energy high and the atmosphere fun.

This week’s activity, “Castle Down!”, is a lively and engaging game that can be used both as a warm-up and as a skill-development exercise. It challenges students to defend their own castles while trying to knock down those of their opponents — a perfect mix of coordination, accuracy, and strategy!

🔹 Required materials:

  • handballs

  • hoops

  • 0.5 L plastic bottles filled with water (the castles)

🔹 Game description:

Place several hoops on the playing area, keeping a certain distance between them.
Inside each hoop, position a water bottle — this represents the castle.

Each castle has a guardian, whose task is to protect it and prevent it from being knocked over by the other players.

Between the hoops, scatter handballs randomly. The other players must try to reach these balls and throw them to knock down the opponents’ castles, without stepping inside the hoops.

The rest of the students, who are not in play at the beginning, wait behind a start line and enter the game gradually as guardians are eliminated.

When a castle is knocked down, the team that succeeds shouts loudly: “Castle down!” 🗣️
The guardian whose castle was hit leaves the hoop and goes to the end of the waiting line, while the first student from that line takes their place as the new guardian.
